Newfoundland Pics, Part 2

Here are some more pics of Zain in Newfoundland. I've also posted several more pictures, of things other than Zain, on Facebook (you don't need a Facebook account to see the album - click on one of the pictures to a get a bigger view, then you can scroll through all the pics): https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151149077640351.492841.730880350&type=1&l=3a876e7774

"Pwetending" to drink Mum Mum's coffee at camp. We camped 8 days on the trip, at 4 different campsites [note to other toddler owners - road trip with toddler, not a great idea].

Zain made a few friends on the trip. 6-year-old Sky from Labrador was his tour guide at L'Anse aux Meadows, a Viking settlement from about 1000 years ago

On an iceberg/whale/dolphin-seeing boat tour in St. Anthony. For some reason we didn't consider the possible negative impacts of a boat ride in the North Atlantic on a windy day. See that bucket and squeegee? It's there for a reason. All three of us, in addition to several others on our boat, got a wee bit seasick. In our case, we did sightseeing for about 15 minutes and then spent the rest of the 2 hours praying for the ride to be over.

Reality beginning to set in....  We did see some whales and dolphins and one big iceberg, but I think all of us would agree it wasn't worth it. Well, except maybe Zain - he still says "Zain sit on it?" every time we see a boat.

Caribou antler!

"That an otter."  [Repeat 90 times.]

Newfoundland Pics, Part 1

Slowly trying to get back to normal around here. Working through our Newfoundland pictures. Here are a few.

At Bonne Bay in Woody Point

Throwing rocks in the water, Zain's newest hobby - perfect for Newfoundland

He thinks big

Zain and I were throwing rocks in the water off the town dock in Woody Point. A cranky-looking old guy rode by us on a 4-wheeler, giving us what seemed like a grumpy look. He rode out along the bay and then returned a few minutes later, and started driving toward us. I thought he was going to tell us we couldn't be on the dock or something. But... he had been picking these wild roses and gave us one and told us the story of the briar rose. We kept it in the car through our whole trip and it still smelled lovely two weeks later. Moral of the story: don't judge books by their crotchety-looking covers.

Apparently Zain got tired of throwing rocks into the water and tossed his hat in. Poor Mum Mum had to wade into the chilly water to retrieve it.

Having a snack after a hike. Notice the clouds rolling in over the bay in the background.

At the lookout

Zain had another big moment on this lookout - he accomplished his first outdoor pee!  :-)
